Have you grown iris reticulata yet? They are the 2nd blooms in my garden each year, following snowdrops. They bloom in Barrington in mid-March and are SUCH a treat! The very first colorful and showy blooms 😍🙌. Iris reticulata are very petite, about 6” tall, but have surprisingly large flowers for their size. Alida has pale blue standards wth dark blue falls, and a marigold-yellow flame. Because of their timing and their size, I like to plant groups of these by my door so everyone coming and going gets the joy of these early blooms. But they are great in a rock garden, the fronts of borders, or planted in grass. I have some outside my hedge in the grass and people walking down the street love to comment on them. These are adorable forced in pots, too (see the photo of a different variety of iris reticulata that I forced last year). Bonus: they are deer- and rabbit-resistant!
